Building Evacuation

An emergency on campus may require a building evacuation. Examples of such emergencies include gas leaks and building fires. If a building evaucation is required, follow these steps:

  • When instructed, either by fire alarm or other alert notification method, calmly evacuate the building.
  • Retreat to a safe place outside of the building. When possible, pre-determine a place where you and your co-workers/classmates will meet.
  • Remain in this location until everyone is accounted for.
  • Do not re-enter the building until emergency personnel determine it is safe.

Building Fire Drills

By order of the fire marshall, fire drills of all campus buildings must be conducted twice a year. You will be notified in advance of these fire drills and they will be performed with the least disruption to your work day as possible. During a fire drill, you must evacuate the building as if a fire were actually occurring.

To obtain floor plans for your building, contact EH&S at 23057.

Residence Hall Fire Drills

Fire drills for all campus residence halls will be conducted two times per year. When fire drills occur, all student must evacuate the residence halls as if a fire were actually occurring.

Floor plans of residence halls are available here.

For information about fire alarm systems, fire extinguishers, or evacuation plans for your building, contact EH&S at 23057.
