Spatial Benthic Ecologist Position

The University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science seeks a researcher to participate in a benthic ecology research program taking place in South Florida with a focus on spatial and temporal dynamics of seagrass productivity, abundance, and distribution, and relationships between benthic community structure and higher trophic levels. The ideal candidate will be an individual with experience using a combination of GIS, remote sensing, modeling, and field experimentation to understand population, community, or ecosystem patterns and processes at multiple temporal and spatial scales.

Primary duties include field sampling and lab work, data collection and management, statistical and spatial analyses, and report and manuscript preparation. The candidate is also expected to supervise both graduate and undergraduate students.

Qualifications: A Masters or Ph.D. degree in Marine Science or related field, strong GIS, remote sensing, and statistics background, familiarity with landscape ecology, web design and maintenance, experience with field-based research, and willingness to travel and participate in intensive field activities as needed for ~90 days per year. Other desirable skills: small boat operation, AAUS scuba certification, and experience with seagrasses and coral reef organisms.
