Agency/location: Gulf of Maine Research Institute, Portland, Maine Responsibilities: The Gulf of Maine Research Institute is currently seeking applicants for a doctoral fellowship in fisheries ecology. This fellowship will be funded for at least 3 years through a grant from the National Science Foundation entitled ‘Direct and Indirect Coupling of Fisheries through Economic, Regulatory, Environmental and Ecological Linkages.’ It is expected that the applicant will work collaboratively with a team of ecologists (primarily), oceanographers, and economists in order to establish trophic linkages among key fisheries in the Gulf of Maine (i.e., cod, herring and lobsters) in order to assist regional managers in shifting to an ecosystem approach to fisheries. This student opportunity is in conjunction with the University of Maine-Orono where the student will enroll as a Ph.D. candidate. Qualifications: The prospective student is expected to have a B.S. in Ecology, Biology, Marine Science, Fisheries, or a related degree. Previous research experience in a related discipline is required. The student should be comfortable working at sea aboard research vessels.
