Charles
D. Evans was appointed to the UNCW Board of Trustees by
the UNC Board of Governors to a second term ending in 2009. He
serves on the Executive and Educational
Planning and Programs committees.
Evans is an attorney-at-law with the Manteo-based firm of Kellogg
and Evans. He served eight years in the NC House of Representatives
(1978-1986), as well as eight years on the UNC Board of Governors.
Evans was also a member of the board of directors of Sprint/Carolina
Telephone (mid-Atlantic region) from 1987-1997. He has served as
a member of the UNCW Board of Visitors and Parents Council.
A graduate of Manteo High School, Evans received his bachelor’s
degree in economics and his juris doctor from the University of
North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a member of the American Bar
Association, North Carolina Bar Association and the Dare County
Bar Association.
In addition to his professional affiliations, Evans is actively
involved in a number of civic organizations. He is a director of
the North Carolina Aquarium Society, vice chair of the Roanoke Island
Commission, director of the Roanoke Island Historical Association,
director of the North Carolina Community Foundation and a trustee
of the Percy W. and Elizabeth B. Meekins Charitable Trust. As a
member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, Evans is chair of
the Staff-Pastor-Parish Relations Committee.
