violettaVioleta Perez-Villa

Violeta was born in Michoacan, Mexico. She lived there until 2002 when her family migrated to NC.  Throughout middle and high school she participated in several extra-curricular activities including: Beta Club, National Honor Society, Spanish Club, and the Cultural Awareness Club. Violeta was part of her high school’s Girls’ Varsity Soccer team; in 2011 her team won the State Soccer Championship. Violeta was also highly involved in her local church; she served as a Sunday School teacher for three years. Being the first one in her family to attend a four-year university, education is her priority. Violeta is a current junior, double majoring in Criminal Justice and Spanish. She hopes to one day be able to work for the government. Right now she is part of UNCW Centro Hispano’s Mi Casa and Centro Hispano Embajadores. She is also part of the EcoTeal team.


angelAngel Guarisma

Angel has been working with Centro Hispano for a year now, particularly with a focus on the MI CASA program and the overall advancement of Latino and Hispanic youth in the United States. He has a passion for literature, pizza and Seinfeld.  Angel spends his time at UNCW studying Economics, and Computer Science and hopes to one day work in China. He was born in Venezuela.


yamileYamile Uceda

Yamile was born in Los Angeles, California, and moved to Long Island, New York at the age of three. At the start of middle school her family moved to North Carolina, where she quickly became involved in her community. She was an active member of her high school’s International Club, National Honors Society, and School Government Association. She was also involved in the churches of her community and worked as a tutor where she discovered her passion for helping others. As a former mentee of Scholars’ Latino Initiative, she plans on giving back to the Hispanic youth by taking the role as a mentor forUNCW’s Centro Hispano Embajadores. Currently,Yamile is a sophomore and plans to study abroad in the spring.


JacobJacob Caceres-Reyes

Jacob was born in Puerto Rico and lived there until 2011, when he moved to Charlotte, NC. He graduated High School from Northwest School of the Arts, where he majored in Musical Theatre, Theatre and Chorus (Chamber Choir and Men's Ensamble). He was part of the cast in musicals like "West Side Story", "Godspell" and "Footloose". He was involved in National Honors Society, International Thespian Society and Mentoring Program to 6th graders. He served as the drama ministry director, children's bible school teacher and worship singer at Crosspointe Alliance Church. He is currently a member of UNCW Men’s A Capella group, “The High Seas”, UNCW Chamber Choir and part of the UNCW 2014 Orientation Leader team.


evelynEvelyn Juarez Rodriguez

Born in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon Mexico. Her parents migrated to the United States in 2001. Throughout high school she was involved in PEPI (Physical Education Pupil Instructors) class for two years; which inspired her to major in Education. Evelyn attended to her local community college where she completed her Associates in Arts. At the community college she had an opportunity to work in the dental center, where she helped out Hispanic patients from time to time. As a junior, Evelyn is pursuing a degree in Elementary Education and Special Education and looks forward to help out Hispanic children and the Hispanic community.


Justin Borges

Justin Borges

 

Born in Jamaica, Queens, New York. Justin moved to Long Island when he was 8 years old in 2000. In High School, Justin was a 4 sport Varsity Athlete, as well as President of the Spanish Honor Society. Justin also spent a significant amount of time on the council board for his Church Youth Group. Since middle school, Justin has volunteered with children with Autism and other special needs and Paws4People, volunteering at an assistance dog training center for disabled veterans and other adults and children with disabilities. He graduated in the top twenty percent in his class in 2010 with high honors. Justin chose UNCW immediately after being accepted, majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. He works for Housing and Residence Life as well as Middle of the Island Catering, and Centro Hispano. He is the treasurer of the Club Baseball team and a four year returning player. Justin will graduate in May, 2014 with a bachelor’s degree and will be the first in his family to have graduated from college.
