Liz Grimes Named Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources
After a national search, Liz Grimes has been appointed to the position of Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources at UNCW, the university announced today. Grimes, a 17-year veteran of the university’s HR office, has been the interim associate vice chancellor since September 2016.
Grimes will begin her new role immediately. She previously served as Director of Talent Development & Employee Relations in the Office of Human Resources. During that time, she led a team that worked to enhance the university’s campus onboarding program for new employees.
“Liz’s dedication to UNCW employees and the important work of the Office of Human Resources is well known on campus, and we’re fortunate to have a leader of her caliber fill the associate vice chancellor’s position,” said Chancellor Jose Sartarelli.
As the university’s chief human resources officer, Grimes will report to the chancellor and will serve as a member of his cabinet.
“This is an exciting time to be at UNCW and to be part of the campus community, with strong leadership and a Strategic Plan to set the direction for the future,” Grimes said. “We’re taking the university to new heights, and I am fortunate to lead an HR team that has such a high level of expertise and commitment. I look forward to being in a position to support them and to create conditions for their continued success.”
Prior to coming to UNCW, Grimes held supervisory positions for the North Carolina Department of Health & Human Services, the Carteret County Department of Social Services and the mental health division of the DuPage County (Illinois) Health Department. She holds a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Hope College.
