Generalized Course Description
| Each course would be designed to be a comprehensive review of the discipline, with particular emphasis on topics identified by the NC Department of Public Instruction in their Standard Course of Study. Each will be developed and taught by a full time science faculty member of the UNCW College of Arts and Sciences. A graduate student and a master teacher with expertise in teaching high school science in the discipline will aid the instructor in course development, with the graduate student serving as the TA for the course when it is actually offered. In addition to content specific assessment measures such as exams and quizzes, projects designed to emphasize areas of particular need or interest will be required. In the case of the teachers, these projects might involve creation of content modules to be presented in their classrooms. Students will be expected to collaborate on course assignments both in person and using web-based virtual meeting software such as Centra or Eluminate. Lecture courses will be recorded using Apreso and made available over the Internet, as will all syllabi, assignments and course evaluation materials. |
