Computer Science 121 is the first of a three course sequence (CSC 121, 221, 332) on computer programming using the Java programming language. In these courses students learn many core concepts in computer science and the fundamentals of software design and development. Students learn basic problem solving strategies and common design patterns in order to expedite the software development process.

We propose to introduce Tablet PCs into the introductory computer science class (CSC 121).  Two sections of 121 are being planned for Fall 2008, one where all students come with Tablet PCs and the other where only the instructor has a Tablet PC.  We will use the Tablet PC to support in-class assessment of student handwritten and sketched answers to computer science related concepts and problems.
