Associate Director Named Interim Director for the School of Health and Applied Human Sciences

Dr. Steve Elliott was recently named Interim Director of the School of Health and Applied Human Sciences. 

Elliott most recently served as the associate director of the School of Health and Applied Human Sciences. Prior to coming to UNCW, he served as an assistant professor and graduate program coordinator at Georgia Southern University (GSU) from 2003-06.

Elliott received his doctor of philosophy and master of education degrees from the University of Virginia (UVA). He also holds a bachelor of arts degree from UNCW. He was selected as the Outstanding Doctoral Student in the Curry School of Education at UVA and has been the recipient of teaching awards including the 2015 Distinguished Teaching Professorship Award at UNCW.

Elliott has over 20 published journal articles and book chapters and has presented at several national and international conferences. Recently, his scholarly focus has shifted towards the scholarship of teaching and leadership issues in higher education. He currently serves as the president-elect for the North Carolina Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Sport Management.

Having been a long-time member of the UNCW community, an international student from 1992-1996, a faculty member from 2006-10 and the associate director from 2010-17, Elliott has a strong commitment to providing students with powerful learning experiences characterized by applied learning opportunities, creative inquiry and critical thinking. He enjoys supporting Seahawk athletic teams, traveling, participating in sports and exercise and spending time with his family.
