Leadership Grove

Leadership Grove Tree

The Leadership Grove is a collaborative effort between the Center for Leadership Education and Service and the Campus Arboretum project that began in April 1999. Trees are planted around the Campus Commons in honor of those who have exemplified service leadership by modeling long standing and extraordinary commitment to the University of North Carolina Wilmington community.  These are dedicated individuals who have enriched the University beyond the measures of time and money.

In past years, the university has suffered significant losses of trees due to hurricanes. The grove is just one of many efforts towards replenishing and enhancing the campus landscape.

A recognition plaque hangs outside the Lumina Theater in the Fisher Student Center.  Each leaf on the plaque represents an honoree for whom trees have been dedicated..

Those honored in the Leadership Grove include past and present student leaders, faculty, key administrators, and donors from the university and Wilmington communities. Those making donations of trees include faculty, student organizations and anonymous individuals.
