Q. How do I become a Communication Studies (COM) major?
A. First, you must become a Pre-Communication Studies (PCOM) major.
A student who has earned a minimum 24 semester credit hours and completed
COM 105 Introduction to Communication Studies with a grade of "B" or higher
is eligible to declare PCOM by completing an application.
Q. How do I advance from a PCOM to a COM major?
A. In addition to the successful completion of COM 105 (grade of "B" or higher), to become a
COM major a grade of "B" or higher is also required in COM 200 Research Methods.
When the requisite grade in COM 200 has been earned, a PCOM faculty advisor will
notify you of your status change.
Q. When should I take COM 105 Introduction to Communication Studies?
A. This course should be completed during the second semester of your first year or first semester of your second year. COM 105 is often offered during one Summer term, so you may consider enrolling in COM 105 between your first and second years.
