History of Community Standards

Following discussions between the Office of the Dean of Students and the Office of Housing and Residence Life, Cornerstone Community Standards were introduced in the fall of 2006 as an initiative to bring the Cornerstone Statement to life here at UNCW. Rooted in student development theory and successful on other campuses across the country, the implementation of Cornerstone Community Standards on the UNCW campus was seen as a natural progression towards encouraging peer-to-peer communication, accountability and responsibility; the campus already had a very strong culture of community and Community Standards were meant to make it even stronger. In the years since their inception, the campus has seen Community Standards in its residence halls, classrooms, offices, buildings and even the greater Wilmington community.
