UNCW Undergraduate Research & Travel Awards

Major funding provided by the Chancellor’s Office. Administered by CSURF and the Honors Scholars Program. Direct completed applications to the UNCW Honors Scholars Program Office, 2nd floor, Randall Library. You can edit the application on line and print for signatures--- or print unedited, and then write in all items. Purpose:

The purpose of these awards is to encourage scholarship among undergraduate students at UNCW. Undergraduate students may apply for funds to assist with scholarly research travel and travel to professional conferences. All students must have a faculty sponsor and faculty members must accompany students receiving awards for travel to professional conferences.

Award Amount & Limitations:

Individuals are eligible for one award per academic year, regardless of amount of award. Funds are allotted for entire academic year - requests will be reviewed until funds are exhausted, so students planning on spring or summer conference travel should submit applications as soon as possible to ensure availability of funds. All reimbursements will be processed through the Honors office, but travel forms must originate in the home departments. See your departmental office about necessary travel forms before traveling. Applicants must retain all appropriate receipts for reimbursement. 

Students may apply for the following:           Chancellor’s Awards:

Students may apply for travel funds to attend professional meetings, accompanied by a faculty sponsor. All students are eligible to apply for these awards- freshmen to seniors.  Students do not need to be participating in the honors program or be enrolled in directed individual study.  All students must have a faculty mentor who will accompany the student to the professional meeting.

Teal Award: Students who are first authors and primary presenters of a scholarly presentation at the conference are eligible for awards up to $1000 to include reimbursement for transportation, meals, hotel, and registration.

Gold Award: Students attending a professional meeting with a faculty sponsor and/or presenting (but not first author or primary presenter) are eligible for awards up to $500 to include funds for transportation, meals, hotel, and registration.

          Undergraduate Award for Research Travel:

Students may apply for funds to help cover expenses associated with travel to collect data related to directed individual study (491) or honors (499) projects. Funds for transportation, meals, and hotel may be requested and awards may be up to $400. This awards are competitive and funded by the Honors Scholars Program.
