Invalid Form Name Error

You will receive an the same 'Invalid Form Name' error if you try to directly call any form that has a 'Q' in the third position of the Form name.  If a form name has a 'Q' in the third-position, by design, that form can only be called from another form. It cannot be called as a "stand-alone" form because these "Query-only" forms are dependant upon another form in order to "know" what to query/display.  If one tries to call SLQMEET from Direct Access, "Invalid Form Name" would be received just as with SRQMTCH.  SLQMEET can only be called from the Meeting Time Block of SSASECT. SLQMEET [Available Classroom Query Form] "needs to know" the section Start/End Date, Days of Week, Meeting Times in order to give the User the available rooms. Another example that comes to mind is SFQSECM. This called from SFAREGS by clicking on the CRN search button and choosing the option "Search for Sections." SFQSECM is dependant upon SFAREGS because it needs to know the Subject and Course Number for which the User would like to search for the corresponding CRN, and also which sections could potentially cause a Time Conflict with the student's existing registration. Along these same sames lines, if the third-character of a form name = I...that is defined as an "Inquiry Form" and those can be called through Direct Access, for example, SLIAEVN and TGIRCPT.  Query-only forms cannot be called through Direct Access. SRQMTCH needs to be called from SRIPREL.

How can I launch Internet shortcuts in seperate windows?

Launching Internet Shortcuts in Separate Windows
This addresses the following situations:

The user is working in Banner.  He/she also has a shortcut to EPrint on the desktop.  When clicking on the EPrint shortcut, Banner closes and Eprint opens.  He/she would like to be able to click on the EPrint shortcut and have EPrint open in a separate window.

The user is working in Banner. He/she also has a shortcut to the FRS Crosswalk on the desktop.  When clicking on the FRS Crosswalk shortcut, Banner closes and the Crosswalk opens. He/she would like to be able to click on the FRS Crosswalk shortcut and have the Crosswalk open in a separate window.

 Solution:
From the Internet Explorer menu, select Tools, Internet Options.  Click the Advanced Tab.  In the Browsing section of the dialog box, uncheck “Reuse Windows for Launching Shortcuts”, then click Apply and OK.
Clicking the shortcuts will now open in a separate window.

What is the plug-in that is needed to access Banner?

The plug-in, Java adapter, comes up automatically if it isn’t loaded and needs to be. IF this continues to be a problem, there are two possible causes:

  • You may have a pop-up blocker on your machine. If so, you want to either hold down the CTRL key when trying to go to the Banner website or go to an Internet Explorer window, go to the Tools menu option, then to Pop Up Blocker and then select turn off Pop Up Blocker.  If that doesn’t resolve it or you don’t have Pop Up Blocker turned on, you will need to do step 2.
  • You are not set up as an administrator on your machine and need to put a remedy ticket in for your building’s computer person to make you either an administrator or a power user on your machine.

What is the difference between INB and self-service?
Banner comes in two flavors: INB & Self-Service. Banner INB is very robust and comprehensive and will be used by the four Systems to complete specific functional processes or those processes that Banner Self-Service is incapable of completing, such as electronic requisitions. Banner Self-Service is more user-friendly and relatively intuitive and will be used by the UNCW community to complete most general end-user processes, such as student registration, employee submission of leave/time sheets, viewing paycheck/direct deposit stubs, viewing & querying budget, and approving documents such as requisitions and budget transfers.
