Must have completed third grade and be 9 by May 1st
Your young detectives will be hot on the trail of a master environmental criminal tracking him through our local habitats. Sea sleuths will spend the week using their CSI forensic skills to decipher clues and collect evidence to solve crimes against the environment in this ecological mystery!
Activities include:
- Field trips to the beach, marsh, fouling station, coquina outcrop, maritime forest, Center for Marine Science, NC Aquarium, Sea Turtle hospital and ranger stations.
Highlights include:
- Learn how to document a crime scene; dissect simulated sea turtle stomachs, analyze water samples; study dolphin fin identification techniques, cast mud prints; enjoy shallow water snorkeling; introduction to kayaking; learn how to use compound microscopes to detect harmful algal blooms; go fishing; meet some Park Rangers and write your own environmental protection laws.
