Must have completed first grade and be 7 by May 1st
Send your young explorer on a true treasure hunt to discover the riches of our local barrier islands. Follow a secret map through the beach, dunes, maritime forest and marsh to find the true plant and animal treasures that inhabit our marine environment.
Activities include:
- Field trips to the beach, marsh, bird sanctuary, fouling station, carnivorous plant bog, maritime forest, Center for Marine Science and NC Aquarium.
Highlights include:
- Learn how to read a map and compass, use metal detectors on the beach, learn how to use binoculars; go shell hunting in the splash zone; sand castle physics on the beach; go seining and dip netting and participate in a beach sweep.
