Minutes of the Annual
Business Meeting of the Dreiser Society
American Literature Association
San Francisco, May 26, 2006
- The
meeting began with the following status report from Donna Packer-Kinlaw,
Secretary/ Treasurer:
- Vol.
36 (Dreiser Studies) paid
in full members: 53
- Vol.
1 (Studies in American
Naturalism) paid in full members: 33
- Bank
account balance as of May 24, 2006: $2441
- PayPal
was discussed as an option for paying dues. Donna will be checking
into this and reporting back to Steve.
- Roark
Mulligan was elected unanimously to be the new VP.
- Keith
Newlin was succeeded by VP Steve Brennan as president for the next
two years.
- It
was decided to have one panel in next September’s ALA Symposium
on American Fiction.
- Keith
reported on plans for Studies
in American Naturalism:
- A
new website is up (http://www.uncw.edu/san/)
- The
Dean at UNCW has agreed to continue partial funding for the
journal.
- The
journal is being marketed to various author societies.
- SAN
will not publish conference notes, announcements, or
bibliographic information. Instead, that information will be
published in a newsletter sponsored by the Frank Norris Society,
with contributions from the Crane, Dreiser, London, and Garland societies
as well.
- The
Dreiser Essay Prize was put on hiatus until its necessity and
appropriateness for SAN is
determined.
- It
was decided to offer two Dreiser sessions at the 2007 ALA
conference. The topics will be left open in hopes of attracting
more submissions.
