Dr. Grindlay teaches GLY150 Introduction to Oceanography, GLY 443/543 Tectonics, GLY489 Dynamic Earth, GLY450 Geological Oceanography, GLY495 Senior Seminar, GLY501 Research Methods, GLY550 Marine Geology, and GLY551 Seafloor Mapping.
Dr. Grindlay uses high-resolution swathmapping (multibeam bathymetry, sidescan sonar) and geophysical (gravity, magnetics, single-channel seismics) instrumentation to examine the morphology, structure and tectonics of submarine transform, convergent, and divergent plate boundaries. Current focus areas are the Southwest Indian Ridge, the northeastern North American-Caribbean plate boundary and the southern Mid-Atlantic Ridge. Other research topics include seabed habitat classification, and sediment transport and masswasting along continental and insular margins.
