(WSE): Deans Office The Dean’s Office in the Watson College of Education celebrates Employee Appreciation Week with its door decoration, “We Are UNCW...We Are Watson College.” Our door captures Sammy C. Hawk wings held high welcoming all to the Watson College just as he welcomes all that visit or attend UNCW. On Sammy’s wings are pictures of the Dean’s Suite employees who are here to welcome and assist students, faculty and guests. The apples on our door represent the core of the Watson College. On the apples are images of all the departments, programs and activities which make up the Watson College of Education. Without the wonderful work of our faculty, staff and students none of this would be possible. It is our belief that amazing things happen when we all come together for a common goal and purpose. We would like to celebrate the wonderful community of the Watson College and UNC Wonderful! Location: Education Building 326 |

University College: The theme of our door decoration is “University College Helping Hands Deserve a Round of Applause.” Everyone on our staff is dedicated to helping each student that walks through our door and we view ourselves as those ‘helping hands’ for the students. Each one of our staff’s friendly faces is represented on the people holding hands. We collected encouraging and appreciative messages from students that visit our office on the paper hands that form a circle, “a round of applause.” In the center of our round of applause is our front office receptionist and 17 year employee, Mazelle Williams. She is the heart and face of our office, welcoming every student, keeping us in line and embodying our collective UNCW mission as soaring Seahawks. Our door is also interactive! With festive hand clapper party favors attached throughout. And of course we proudly used the color theme of Teal, Blue and Gold! Location: DePaolo 1092 |

University Advancement: University Advancement understands that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts and that without the help of everyone on campus this university would not soar. This idea was the first thing to come to mind when we heard the theme: We Are UNCW: Days to Applaud & Recognize Employees. Dare to Soar! Our door says it all – the letters forming the words “WE ARE UNCW” are only recognizable because the name of every employee of UNCW gives them structure and meaning. We recognize every UNCW employee on our door, because every employee is a part of our UNCW whole. Not only do we recognize their role, but we created a moving photo of Chancellor Miller to help us applaud employees. We wanted to help others recognize University Advancement employees, so we created anagrams and challenge everyone to stop by and see if you have what it takes to recognize and applaud our fellow colleagues. Dare to Soar! Location: AL 108 |

Student Accounts and Cashier's Office: We here in the Student Accounts and Cashier’s Office feel we are an integral piece of UNCW. Each member of our exceptional “family” is represented by their own brick in our “wall”. Without anyone of our members our “wall” would come down. We want to applaud and recognize each individual who has gone above and beyond the call of duty on many occasions to assist one of our students, parents, fellow staff/faculty members and military personnel. Due to our high regard for education and the financial readiness of our students and fellow Seahawks, we as a team, created a scholarship (SACO) to help continue the education of one of our students. Watson College: Office of Teacher Education and Outreach Our door illustrates the infinite possibilities we can achieve when we work together. Though we are all individuals, we are part of a larger collective. As Seahawks, we journey together, soar to new places, and achieve the unimaginable. This mission fits nicely with the purpose of our office. As the Office of Teacher Education and Outreach in the Watson College of Education, we work collaboratively with regional and international public schools, community agencies, and other institutions to improve the lives, learning, and opportunities of all students. Each of our staff is represented on the door as an astronaut, with Sammy the Seahawk leading the way. On the earth, we have a building which represents UNCW and another building that represents one of our partner schools in South Africa. Each of our regional partnership districts is represented by a star in outer space. And the space shuttles, named Seahawk Discovery and Seahawk Explorer, represent the incredible journey we can make together. It was our hope that this door would serve as a reminder of the extraordinary work done by UNCW employees (along with our students, donors, and other supporters). Together, we have transcended obstacles, erased boundaries, and realized dreams. We have dared to soar and we soar. Location: Education Building 160 |
