Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need a completion letter?

Once you have finished all of your degree and/or licensure requirements, we will send your licensure packet to Raleigh. When you get a job offer, the hiring county will want verification that you completed all requirements. You will use a “completion letter” to verify this while you are waiting on the paper copy of your license.

Where can I get a copy of my completion letter?

The completion letter will be waiting for you in your SeaWork account.  This is an electronic self-managed credential file that will automatically be generated when something is submitted in your name (Praxis scores, letter of recommendation, etc.)  All you need to do is access it.  Follow the directions here to find out more:  Your SeaWork account is active for five years!

When will the completion letter be ready?

Completion letters are prepared after all requirements are met and final grades are posted.  This will take several weeks after graduation.

What if my completion letter is not in my SeaWork account?

If it is not in your SeaWork account, it means something is missing that prohibited us from writing the letter.  Are all course requirements complete, did you take and pass the Praxis II, do we have your scores on file, etc.?

How do I request a transcript?

To request an official UNCW transcript from the Office of the Registrar, follow the instructions through SeaNet (

How long will it take for me to receive my licensure after submission?

Allow 2-3 months after your graduation date for processing and receipt of your teaching license.

What happens if my licensure paperwork is not complete?

It is your responsibility to apply for licensure and to make sure we have all the necessary documents for your licensure paperwork.  If your licensure paperwork is incomplete, we will hold your paperwork in our office until we receive all necessary documents.
