Faculty Research Interests


Dr. Thomas' research interests include collaboration and teaming strategies, and techniques for teaching written language for students with disabilities. Her service areas include beginning teacher programs, collaboration models, and written language strategies.

Dr. Steele’s research interests include early identification and intervention for learning disabilities and mathematics, social studies and science instruction for students with learning problems. Her service areas include University College Advising, University Reappointment, Promotion, and Tenure Committee Chair, Department Graduate Coordinator, Special Education Coordinator, University Academic Standards Committee, Educational Leadership Doctoral Planning Committee, and consultation with parents and professionals about children with learning problems.

Dr. Lanunziata's research interests include Positive Behavior Support Models for Elementary and Middle Schools, effective instructional approaches for students with mild to moderate disabilities within general education classrooms, implementing applied behavior analysis procedures in educational settings, designing effective behavioral plans for students within general education programs, and establishing effective public school programs for students with behavioral and emotional handicaps. His service areas include coordinating the Special Education Program within the Watson School of Education, consulting with public school districts in the designing and operation of Positive Behavior Support Programs, designing and delivering teacher training workshops on inclusion strategies for special needs students, and consulting with parents, teachers and school administrators on designing and implementing behavior change and management programs for students with special needs.

Dr. Mechling's research interest include use of assistive technology to teach persons with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities; use of computer-based video technology to teach persons with moderate to severe disabilities; community-based instruction and functional skills instruction.

Dr. Campbell's research interests include mild disabilities,inclusion, direct instruction reading, multisensory teaching strategies, interventions for students at-risk for reading failure, preparing teachers via distance education. She is also an advisor for the CEC.
