Week 1:
School Visitation in Modena/Correggio (May 31-June 4, 2010)
Program participants will follow the typical daily schedule for the Correggio schools:
- Morning: Breakfast with host families, followed by travel to host schools;
- Midday: Lunch may be arranged such that participants will be able to remain at host schools, or, lunch will be independent;
- Afternoon: Complete the school day at host schools; meet as a group to debrief and conduct course activities (Site TBD, ideally at the host schools). This will be followed by independent choice activities, including touring Correggio and/or other regional cities/towns; spending time with host families; reading/writing.
- Evening: Return to host families for evening meal; free time to work on course-related activities and/or social activities
Week 2:
Cultural Touring (June 4-13, 2010)
Program participants will travel to three locations of historical and cultural significance that will allow for participants to experience the unique range of linguistic and cultural diversity that defines Italy as a country: Venice, Florence and Rome. Program participants will have purchased Italian Youth (&/or Adult) Rail Passes, which allow for unlimited Italian rail trips for a specified number of days, so, in country travel will only require scheduling trips.
Program participants will be apprised of the significant cultural sites and areas of interest associated with each of the three locations; we will meet as a group daily to plan and discuss the day’s schedule and events. In addition, the group will meet daily to debrief about both course-related activities and cultural events/experiences.
Participants will travel together with the faculty leader to each location as a group, stay in the same hotels (planned 2-3 star accommodations) at each location, and visit some of the same cultural sites in each city.
The planned schedule involves 3 nights at each location, which will allow for the return travel to Bologna, the arrival/departure location.
Meals and local transportation will be managed individually by participants. Typically, hotels will be centrally located to allow for easy access to sites by foot, minimizing transportation costs; in some locations (eg, Rome), participants may choose to travel to the environs, requiring either bus or train travel. Our partner Italian company, Victoria, will be able to support such plans by advising and possibly arranging for specific travel plans.
