Program Requirements and Courses

Students who plan to become licensed teachers in the North Carolina public school system must complete UNCW's University Studies requirements and all requirements in their major, and be formally admitted to the Watson College of Education.

A grade of "C-" or better is required in all professional education courses. Students may repeat courses in which they earned a grade lower than "C-" (1.7) only with permission of the dean of the Watson College of Education. However, students should realize that courses are only offered once a year, and repeating a course will add another year to a student's program of study. A cumulative grade point average of 2.70 or higher is required for eligibility for the practicum semester.

Students seeking secondary teacher licensure must complete a major in the content area, any additional content courses required for licensure, and the Secondary Education Courses.
