The Watson School of Education (WSE) is a growing school with about 60 tenure-track faculty members working in undergraduate and master’s programs in the Departments of Early Childhood and Special Education, Elementary, Middle Grade and Literacy Education, and Instructional Technology, Foundations and Secondary Education, and master’s and doctoral programs in the Department of Educational Leadership. It has extensive international programs and maintains active partnerships with 12 school districts in the region. In 2006 WSE received the Christa McAuliffe Excellence in Teacher Education Award from AASCU. We seek to prepare students and practicing professionals who are knowledgeable and skilled in educating learners from diverse backgrounds, seek to create equitable learning environments, and engage in collaborative relationships with colleagues, families, schools, and community agencies.
The University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) is located in the historic, coastal, seaport community of Wilmington, which is ideally situated between the Cape Fear River and Atlantic Ocean. A community of about 100,000, Wilmington has an historic downtown that includes a dynamic arts community, unique shopping and fine dining; numerous parks, recreational facilities, and other shopping areas; and easy access to several beautiful ocean beaches. UNCW enrolls about 13,000 undergraduate and graduate students on its 640 acre campus and several extension sites. It is ranked by U.S. News and World Report as one of the top universities of its kind in the South and one of the top best values in the nation by both Kiplinger’s and Forbes magazines.
