Licensure Areas Served*
The 2008 NC Teach program at UNCW is designed to prepare
alternative licensure teachers for the following 3 areas only:
SCIENCE
Middle Grades (6-9)
Secondary (9-12)
MATHEMATICS
Middle Grades (6-9)
Secondary (9-12)
SPECIAL EDUCATION
General Curriculum Track
Adapted Curriculum Track
*Due to recent changes in North Carolina Department
of Public Instruction’s licensure requirements, applicants must
have a degree in a related area to be eligible for lateral entry licensure
and thus, for employment. UNCW’s NC TEACH program will only consider
applicants with the following bachelor’s / master’s degrees
deemed relevant by the state:

Science
Biology
Chemistry
Mathematics
Mathematics
*Accounting (Middle School only)
Note: Accounting degrees are not acceptable
for secondary (high school) mathematics but may be for middle grades
math if candidate has at least 15 hours of mathematics courses
Special Education
Psychology
Child Development
Social Work
Speech / Language Impaired
Counselor
Sociology
