Mr. Jeff Ertzberger
Jeff came to UNCW with a history of working in adult education and the public schools. He holds a bachelors degree in Music Education from UNC-Greensboro and a Masters degree and is currently working on his Doctorate in Educational Technology from Pepperdine University. He worked in the public schools for almost 10 years with two of those years being spent working at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Jeff states, "I am extremely excited about this opportunity to work with schools and intern teachers to help them find effective ways to use technology to improve student achievement. My philosophy of computers in education is a simple but effective one. Technology is simply delivery system like many others. Technology should not be used in every lesson, but should be used in those lessons where the technology makes it possible to do something you could not do with out it, or does it better. It is my hope that we can equip intern teachers and teachers already serving in the field with the knowledge and support they will need to use technology effectively in their classrooms."
Ms. Beth Allred
Beth graduated from UNCW with a bachelor's degree in Mathematics. She then taught high school mathematics for nine years. During that time she earned her National Board Certification. After researching graduate programs, Beth decided to come back to UNCW to get a Master of Science in Instructional Technology. This exciting program in the Watson School of Education was a great opportunity for Beth to enhance her teaching skills while developing her technology skills. Upon graduation in May 2005, Beth is prepared to provide quality instruction to UNCW students and faculty, and teachers in our PDS schools.
Beth states, "Instructional Technology is a wonderful field to be involved in. I am excited about being part of the Watson School of Education team. I look forward to enhancing our partnership with the public schools. I believe that incorporating technology into instruction allows students to acquire skills that will be useful for future employment. It also allows teachers to accomplish many goals in the classroom that could not have been accomplished within a classroom previously."
The Technology Liaisons teach the WSE program courses such as EDN 301, 303 or 416, as well as conduct professional development modules and/or workshops related to the above with appropriate constituents (PDS school district administrators, partnership teachers, WSE/UNCW faculty, DPI partners, etc).
