What is the Foundations Portfolio?

Beginning with the 2005,fall semester, the Watson School of Education requires that all students enrolled in EDN 200, 203, 301 and/or 303 maintain an active account on TaskStream, a web-based curriculum builder and portfolio toolset. You are asked to maintain that account for the duration of your program with the Watson School of Education.

You will use your account to store specific evidence from each course and to build a Foundations Portfolio from these courses to take to your methods courses and internship. All WSE interns are required to prepare a portfolio on TaskStream during their internship. Lateral entry teachers are required to maintain evidence through the methods courses.

TaskStream is a versatile tool that allows candidates to develop curriculum, correspond, assess, and store multiple sources of evidence.

Some instructors will take advantage of the tools in TaskStream more than others. At minimum, your EDN 200, 203, 301 and 303 instructors will ask you to store the following:

EDN 200

  1. 1) Biography: Students will reflect how their personal experiences shaped their educational perspectives and world view.

  2. 2) Research Project: Students will research and present on a relevant educational issue.

EDN 203

  1. 1) Case Study Analysis: A 2-3 page writing assignment requiring analysis, interpretation and/or evaluation of case studies depicting authentic scenarios that depict teachers and students involving realistic teaching issues, circumstances, and/or events.

  2. 2) Artifact Interpretation: A 2-3 page writing assignment requiring analysis, interpretation and/or evaluation of examples of student work, products and/or test results.

EDN 301

Instructional Design Project Series: Students will demonstrate knowledge of instructional design principles by applying what they have learned to a series of instructional design issues and practices

EDN 303

Student web page which will have all of their products from the semester, including: spreadsheet exercise (Excel), brochure on ethics and security (Word and/or Publisher), Lesson plan presentation (PPT), List of web resources related to their field of study, and web site developed with FrontPage.

Instructors will introduce TaskStream to you in an early class in the semester and our lab assistants on the education computer lab will all be able to assist you with your use of TaskStream during the semester.
