The Applied Learning Summer Institute

The Applied Learning Summer Institute

What is The Summer Institute?

Summer Institute SunEvery summer before classes begin, ETEAL hosts a two day conference full of programming and workshops about Applied Learning. This is The Summer Institute, an event where experts from within UNCW and across the nation gather to facilitate workshops on teaching practices and techniques. There are also many activities and discussions within the Institute designed to help Faculty and Staff understand Applied Learning here at UNCW, to formulate Applied Learning lesson plans, to understand how to get the resources and support they need to carry out an Applied Learning initiative, and so much more. If you're interested in hearing more about how this year's Summer Institute went, check out the Summer Institute Report!

2016 ETEAL Applied Learning Summer Institute

The 2016 Summer Institute saw more than 100 attendees engage in two full days of hands-on, applied workshops, sessions, presentations, and events between July 26th and July 27th. Keynote Speaker Dr. Linda Nilson presented an excellent address and workshop on creating self-regulated learners and strategies to help students improve their own self-awareness and learning skills. With more attendees and activities than ever, the 2016 Applied Learning Summer Institute provided a wealth of opportunities for faculty, staff, and administrators to all share their applied learning experiences and insights as well as form new collaborative partnerships!

The 2015 Applied Learning Summer Institute

Between July 28th and 29th in 2015, ETEAL and the ALTC hosted our fourth annual Applied Learning Summer Institute and engaged over 80 UNCW faculty, staff, and administrators in two days of hands-on applied learning experiences. From our Be-a-Student experiences that put participants in the role of students entering an applied learning course to Dr. Tricia Kelley's keynote address, the 2015 Summer Institute provided more applied learning opportunities than ever before.
