ETEAL overview

What is ETEAL?

Documentary Filming in SwanseaETEAL is UNCW's Quality Enhancement Plan, a plan which aims to improve the quality of learning for all of our students and faculty. ETEAL itself stands for:

Experiencing
Transformative
Education through
Applied
Learning

This means that we strive to improve applied learning outcomes through the application of research-based instructional strategies vital to promoting highest quality learning experiences. There's a lot that goes into Applied Learning, but in short, when faculty and students engage in Applied Learning experiences, students can learn more easily, gain more professional skills, and become stronger critical thinkers.

ETEAL's Initiatives

Summer Institute 2014ETEAL uses three core initiatives, as well as a number of secondary initiatives, in our strategy to enhance student learning, faculty experiences, and advance Applied Learning for all of UNCW. The aim of this strategy is to devote our resources to support faculty development and enriched, applied, high-impact learning experiences. The three parts of this approach are our Applied Learning Summer Institute, the Applied Learning Teaching Community, and our ETEAL-Supported Initiatives.

  • The Applied Learning Summer Institute: A multi-day UNCW conference and presentation series on Applied Learning that allows faculty to discuss best practices, exchange ideas, and train with nationally recognized experts.
  • The Applied Learning Teaching Community(ALTC): The ALTC is both a community and a network of all applied learning instructors and practitioners at UNCW. The ALTC is committed to enhancing applied learning for students by supporting practitioners through a teaching and learning community, encouraging the sharing and adoption of best practices by faculty and staff across disciplines, colleges, and academic experiences at UNCW.
  • ETEAL Experiences: Each semester, ETEAL funds more than 15 courses, experiences, and other projects led by faculty and designed to bring Applied Learning Experiences directly to UNCW students. These experiences provide them with hands on, real world training and the skills they need to be professionally competitive in their field and in their future.
