Student discipline
All students shall be responsible for conducting themselves in a manner
that helps to enhance an environment of learning in which the rights,
dignity, worth and freedom of each member of the academic community
are respected. (See the Code of the University of North Carolina, Section
608.)
If a student's behavior
in the classroom is disruptive so that it impacts negatively on the
learning environment, it is the right and obligation of the faculty
member to ask the student to stop or to leave the classroom. If the
disruptive behavior continues, the faculty member should inform the
Dean of Students of the problem.
Disciplinary proceedings in the university must insure due process,
as set forth in Section
502 D(3) of the Code.
