The University of North Carolina is proud to host the inaugural season of CINEMA NOUVEAU, featuring six cutting edge French films made by first-time directors. The entire series is free to the public, and each film will be shown on the big screen in 35mm, in the Warwick Center Ballroom (click here for an interactive map) on the UNCW campus. All are warmly invited to what promises to be an exciting festival of cinema. CINEMA NOUVEAU celebrates a central aspect of recent French cinema - the directorial debuts of up-and-coming film artists. In 2002 alone, 41% of French film production was made up of first films. Our six-film season features the work of three men and three women, all with very different approaches to film style, and the representation of powerful themes. Collectively, the six filmmakers embody much of what makes French cinema innovative, unpredictable, and at the cutting edge of world filmmaking. We, the organizers of CINEMA NOUVEAU, hope you will take advantage of this unique opportunity to view these hard-to-find films. The festival is another indication of Wilmington's rising status as a center for film culture. We look forward to seeing you there! Tim Palmer Michelle Scatton-Tessier
NOTE: Free parking available on-site. Accommodations for disabilities may be requested by contacting 962-7502 three days prior to the event. Some film content may not be appropriate for all audiences; all films have English subtitles.
