Flicker Film Society

We make movies. It’s as simple as that.

We’re a group of students at UNCW who love movies, and more importantly we’re all interested in some aspect of making movies. We’re a mix of directors, producers, actors, camerawomen, best boys, grips and gaffers, screenwriters, animators, sound engineers, editors, special effects wizards – we think you get the idea.

Our membership is open to anyone at UNCW who shares our passion. You don’t have to be a film major, you don’t have to want to make films professionally, you don’t even have to know how to work a camera. Once you’ve found the pleasure and excitement in creating something, we can show you the rest.

Our club spends the fall working on small group projects, where new and old Flicker members can get creative and try out new things. In the spring Flicker selects several large group projects and club members apply for crew positions they’re interested in. The year culminates in April with the Reel Teal Film Festival, where large group projects are premiered. Flicker projects from the past year often play at Reel Teal as well.

Flicker members don’t only benefit from making connections with other students interested in film or by getting to work on Flicker projects. Our club owns a nifty stock of cameras, lights, sound and grip equipment that is available for checkout to members who have paid their membership dues ($10 annual, $5 semester). We also do equipment seminars in our meetings and offer equipment training outside of meetings for members who request it.

Teal TV

TealTV is UNCW’s student-run broadcast organization that provides experience in all aspects of media production. Students can gain hands-on experience with on-camera anchoring and reporting, digital-video editing, script writing, field and studio production, promotions and marketing, and broadcast journalism. Our programs air on The Learning Network (TLN) and UNCW-TV and are also uploaded onto TealTV’s YouTube channel. Membership is open to any UNCW student.
