Financial Aid Awarding Process
FAFSA applications at UNCW are reviewed on a first come, first serve basis contingent upon acceptance to the university. You must be admitted to a degree or approved certificate program at UNCW before your financial aid application can be considered.
If you will be applying for aid at UNCW, please include your Social Security Number on your Application for Admission, or update your SSN with their office accordingly. Though noted as optional on the application, this information is required by the federal government to process any financial aid awards. Please indicate that you want your FAFSA released to UNCW, school code 002984.
Students may submit their FAFSA beginning October 1. Priority deadline for the fall semester is January 1. Students planning to begin enrollment in the spring semester must meet the November 1 deadline to secure funding prior to the start of class. Award notifications for completed applications of new and transfer students will be sent to UNCW email addresses beginning April 1. Returning students will receive their award notifications by May 15.
Once UNCW has received a copy of your FAFSA, an award offer will be electronically sent to the student. If additional information is required in order to process the financial aid award, known as verification, the student will receive notification via email and through the student portal, SeaNet.
