Derrick Miller joins the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures after having taught as a visiting instructor at Grinnell College and then as a visiting assistant professor at Duke University. He completed his Ph.D. (2007) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he specialized in 18th century German literary culture, aesthetics, and gender and sexuality studies. Miller is at work on a project that conceptualizes the uses of pleasure in the German Enlightenment. He also enjoys teaching German classes at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum, and these interests are leading him to explore the intersection of the application of technology in language classroom and ecological models of foreign language pedagogy.
