September meeting: The September meeting
was a success. Twenty-five of the best teachers in the region were in
attendance! Thanks to all who paid dues. Thanks to Julie Bordo for the
great amount of ideas and materials she brought from the NE Conference
and to all who brought activities to share in the Teacher Swap.
November meeting:
—Kim Eadie and Jennings Craig will present “Volunteer Experiences
in Africa.”
We will have group input on a presentation of “Masks” from
all languages and cultures. If you have a mask, bring it! Be prepared
to give a brief comment on its origin, significance, etc. We have the
following volunteers so far: John Stevens, Peter Thomas, and Agnes Ille.
Has anyone done masks as class projects? If so, can you share?
—Scholarship winners from UNCW will also be announced. The amount
of these scholarships has been increased to $200.
January meeting: Art presentation and crafts projects from Guatemala and
elsewhere. Christi Lea and Lisa Byrd will give a presentation on Graduate
Study Abroad in Spain
March meeting: International Brunch and Fund-raising raffle.

Ruth Díaz has recently undergone heart surgery. She will be out
of the hospital this week and then recovering at home. She can be reached

Italian Heritage Society cookbook: These will be available in November
and contain 205 authentic Italian recipes contributed by members. Cost
is $12.95. Proceeds to benefit scholarship fund of Italian Heritage Society.

A French Film Series is ongoing at UNCW as part of Dr. Alison Murray’s
film course. Screenings are at 7pm in Bryan Auditorium, Morton Hall and
are free and open to the public. The remaining films are:

Both are at 7:30.
Intercultural Week at UNCW: February 12-17, including the Eighth Annual
Intercultural Festival on Saturday, February 17 from 11am-3pm in the Hawk’s
Nest of the University Union.
A Spanish graduate course will be offered on UNCW campus in Summer 2001.
