Juall’s primary field of research is the relationship between ideology and imperialism in early modern French/European literature. He has published articles in French Literature Series, Études Rabelaisiennes, Renaissance and Reformation, and L’Esprit Créateur; he recently edited a volume titled Encounters with Alterity in Early Modern French Travel Literature. His current book project is on sixteenth-century French travel narratives and (anti-)imperialism. He is also interested in spaces of artistic creation among French and Spanish Surrealists in twentieth-century Paris. He teaches courses on travel literature from the Middle Ages-18th century; travel writing in Paris; francophone literature, cinema, and music; and French linguistics.
