Peter Thomas is a Latin Americanist. Besides specializing in modern Latin American fiction, he is active in multidisciplinary Latin American Studies.  He has studied and worked in Mexico, Brazil, Central America, and most recently in the Andes.  As a member of the Asociacion de Ecuatorianistas de Norteamerica and frequent on-site director for UNCW study abroad programs in Quito, his research focus in recent years has been Ecuador.  He has most recently published articles on contemporary Ecuadorean narrative and a book on the city of Quito as a sign of the labyrinth in modern fiction.  At present he is conducting research on indigenous political movements in Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia.
