Internships in Spanish (SPN 498)
The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures has agreements with several local agencies and some agencies beyond New Hanover County for receiving interns who are Spanish students. Students interested in working as interns for academic credit must have at least junior standing and must have satisfactorily completed at least 12 hours of course work at the 300- and/or 400-level in Spanish. Such students may be enrolled in SPN 498 once they have been approved for the internship placement. This arrangement provides a valuable program of work and study that affords the student practical experience involving observation and application of foreign language (i.e. Spanish).
The components of the internship are as follows:
--Interns must work a minimum of 60 hours per semester or summer session at the internship site. These hours must be verified, documented and evaluated by the internship site supervisor.
--Interns must keep a journal that includes a minimum of fifteen 150-word entries written in Spanish.
--Interns must complete a final research paper which is related to the internship experience and to the services offered by the internship site.
All three of the above components must be met in order for the intern to receive academic credit for this experience. For more detailed information on expectations and procedures as well as a list of approved agencies, please contact:
