Web GIS Portal

The Spatial Analysis Lab in the Dept. of Geography and Geology has created Internet Mapping websites since 2000 and has recently upgraded to ArcServer 10 for hosting several GIS projects. You can link to these Web-GIS services using the list below:

A GIS Based Multi Criteria Evaluation of Hurricane Risk in Coastal Counties by Sean Burke, UNCW Graduate GIS Certificate Program, Spring 2012
The purpose of this GIS is to identify specific coastal counties and regions in the Atlantic hurricane basin that are at a higher risk to the damaging effects of hurricanes.

Land Use and Water Quality Characteristics in New Hanover County Tidal Creeks by Kaitlyn Costin, UNCW Marine Science Masters Program and GIS Certificate Program, Spring 2012
The purpose for this project was to determine if there is a spatial relationship between various types of land use changes and changes in several water quality variables.

Habitat Suitability Index Model: Red Cockaded Woodpeckers, Brunswick, NC Corridor by Cory Darnell, UNCW Marine Science Masters Program and GIS Certificate Program, Spring 2012
The objective of this study was to identify sutiable RCW habitats and potential corridors that could connect the Green Swamp and Boiling Springs Lakes Preserves in Brunswick County, NC.

The Application of LiDAR Data to Classify and Analyze Change of Barrier Island Morphologic Features by Timothy Moss, UNCW Marine Science Masters Program, Spring 2012
The objectives of this study were to classify multiple barrier island features and to quantify the evolution of each feature over time by calculating the change in volume.

Spatial Analysis of Sea Turtle Nesting Frequency Along Topsail Island and Masonboro Island, North Carolina by Ben Sciance, UNCW Graduate GIS Certificate Program, Spring 2012
The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of environmental and anthropogenic variables on the frequency of sea turtle nesting on two North Carolina barrier islands.

Older ArcIMS 9.3 websites are still operational, but are undergoing a transition to the new ArcServer platform. While this transition is taking place you can still view the following websites:

Riverrun: An Interactive mapping application for visualizing water quality parameters in the Lower Cape Fear River. Check out the complete Riverrun website.
