Course Description

GLS 592:  Globalization:  A Survey of Current Issues

Instructor:  Darrell D. Irwin

globe of the earth

The impact of globalization has many social and political consequences. This course surveys issues in a global environment. Some of the issues we will review are the movement of drugs, intellectual property, peoples, money and global slavery. These issues are international in nature. Students will study how global issues cause societies to change. What roles are nation-states likely to play in the twenty-first century? What roles are transnational corporations likely to play in the twenty-first century? What roles are social activist groups likely to play in the twenty-first century? Students will interact in the study of globalization by using social science research to develop and present a case study of a global issue. Your role is likely to change in the twenty-first century because of impact of globalization.
