The primary purpose of the Pre-College Program is to aid the pursuit of postsecondary education for students in grades 8, 9 and 10. The program communicates the message that a college education is attainable, emphasizes the importance of a rigorous curriculum, and explains the components of the college preparation process for students and their families. This achieved by hosting monthly activities designed to increase college readiness and attendance for youth, such as career/major exploration workshop, study skills and the importance of academic rigor.
Candidate must have excellent organization, customer service and communication skills, particularly written skills. Candidate must have ability to work in a fast-paced, environment under limited supervision. Must be able to problem-solve, handle multiple projects and independently prioritize work assignments. Candidate must demonstrate the ability to work with students and families of various ages, backgrounds, experiences and socio-economic levels. Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point is required.
Specific duties include:
- Research and identify potential funding opportunities in support of the pre-college program mission.
- Research current events/highlights within regional K-12 community, state and national education arena for inclusion within pre-college program communications; Identify trends and tools that impact the pre-college target audiences.
- Maintain Pre-College Program’s web site content
- Author/design quarterly newsletter publications for program stakeholders within the university and K-12 community
- Implement marketing strategies to promote pre-college program activities/events, as well as state and national events that pertain to the pre-college community, including maintain the Pre-College Program’s website
- Coordinate program logistical needs including: contacting presenters, room scheduling, program implementation and evaluation.
- Maintain communication with academic departments regarding programs and activities that may benefit the pre-college community
- Represent the Pre-College Program on designated committees within the university setting
- Work collaboratively with the Pre-College Program team, while fostering a collegial work atmosphere
- Other duties as assigned
