UNCW Location

UNCW is located in Wilmington, a city of approximately 90,400 residents. Wilmington sits on the east bank of the Cape Fear River, about 15 miles from Carolina Beach and 10 miles from Wrightsville Beach. UNCW offers students extensive resources and facilities to enhance academic success and create a positive atmosphere for campus life.

Situated on a 661-acre campus, classroom space at UNCW has increased from three buildings in 1961 to 92 currently, with a new Nursing School building. Facilities include fitness and recreation complexes, computer labs, auditoriums and theaters.

The Watson School of Education is housed in a new building that contains state-of-the-art auditoriums, classrooms, faculty offices and curriculum labs. The William Madison Randall Library provides seating for over 950 students and holds nearly two million items, including books, bound journals, microform pieces, periodicals and multimedia items. Other facilities available for student use include computer labs, two physical education complexes, food services, multipurpose rooms, Student Health Services and a new campus recreation center.

The Center for Marine Science, located on 56 acres approximately seven miles from the main campus, directly on the Intracoastal Waterway, houses classrooms, laboratories and research facilities. The campus features the 10-acre Herbert Bluethenthal Memorial Wildflower Preserve, a botanical garden where visitors can learn about native plants and their habitat. The Ev-Henwood Nature Preserve is a 110-acre coastal forest research and teaching station that is only a 30-minute drive from UNCW. About UNCW
