Graduate Council Charges for
Standing Committees


Graduate Faculty
To review criteria for membership on the Graduate Faculty, and thereafter submit recommendations on these to the full membership of the Graduate Council.

Student Affairs
To examine, at the request of the dean of the graduate school, issues concerning those areas of academic and professional conduct germane to the graduate students, and to report the results of such examinations to the full membership of the Graduate Council.
To contact, following consultation with the dean of the graduate school, the vice chancellor for student affairs concerning issues relative to the welfare of graduate students.
To search for ways of improving the quality of campus life for graduate students, and to submit recommendations for such improvements to the full membership of the Graduate Council.

Policy and Planning
To review, at the request of the dean of the graduate school, existing policies concerning those areas of academic affairs relevant to graduate education.
To propose, following consultation with the dean of the graduate school, new or revised policies concerning academic affairs to the full membership of the Graduate Council.

Program and Curriculum
To review proposals for new (or revised) degrees, options, and courses and to submit recommendations on the acceptability of such proposals to the full membership of the Graduate Council.
To conduct and/or supervise feasibility studies, when requested by the dean of the graduate school, of areas where new graduate programs might be implemented, doing so in concert with the appropriate academic unit and in keeping with guidelines established by UNC General Administration.
To participate in reviews, when requested by the dean of the graduate school, of existing graduate programs.
