Gerontology

Coastal Carolina Intergenerational Games (CCIG) was a partnership between the Gerontology Program Service-Learning classes and Long-Term Care facilities in Wilmington. It was a service-learning tool for students and a way to enhance the quality of life for long- term care residents through physical and mental activities. Students volunteered weekly at the facilities practicing events such as bowling, trivia, or Frisbee with the residents. Residents received weekly participation recognition. A final celebration was held as a culmination event. At the final celebration, a spirit competition was held and certificates of participation are awarded to the residents and students.

CCIG began in the Fall of 2002 and the first celebration event was held in April of 2003. The project was repeated for three years.
