What is RMA?
The Recreation Majors Association is a student organization open to all recreation majors (Parks and Recreation Management, Travel and Tourism, and Recreation Therapy). It serves as a valuable way to let recreation majors meet other recreation majors—networking, socializing, serving, and having fun are just a few of RMA’s objectives.
What is the purpose and mission of RMA?
To devote life’s energies to things worthwhile by developing men and women strong in body, mind, and spirit who will promote the recreation profession to the best of their ability by engaging in events that promote education, socialization, and service in the community.
What activities does RMA do?
RMA tries to find a balance between education, service, and fun. Past activities have included meeting at the UNCW climbing wall, constructing a house with Habitat for Humanity, kayak trips, faculty vs. student volleyball game, roadside cleanups, volunteering with adapted sporting events, attending conferences, etc.
Are there any payments to be a member?
We ask that each member contribute a $5 membership fee per semester.
What are the benefits of joining RMA?
- Participate in volunteer activities such as Habitat for Humanity and the Wrightsville Ave roadside cleanup
- Enjoy fun activities such as kayak trips, ropes course, climbing wall, and bowling
- Meet other people in your major
- Fee discounts on some of the events including professional conferences
- Build your resume
When does RMA meet?
RMA meets twice a month. We alternate meeting on campus and off campus. For on campus meetings we will usually meet in Trask 117, at the climbing wall, volleyball courts etc. Our off campus meetings will be at nearby, inexpensive restaurants for good food and socializing. If needed, transportation will be provided.
