We are now in our third year of this program. The purpose for this program is to introduce our freshman to the community, have them get to know an honors professor outside of the classroom, and get to know some of the cultures represented in the Wilmington community. Our program requires freshman to complete two service activities and three cultural events during their fall semester. By attending one of these dinners and completing the requirements, they are able to fulfill one of their cultural requirements. This year we have received grant money which has helped to lower the cost for students who attend the dinners.
Requirements:
1. Read a current event or the culture or country prior to the dinner - preferably from The New York Times. Be prepared to talk about your event.
2. Bring two questions about the culture or country to the dinner to ask to the professor.
3. After the dinner, complete a write up that highlights what you have learned about that culture from the dinner. Do not just write about whether or not you liked the food.
