Modern publications of Franz Liszt’s piano piece “Sunt Lacrymae Rerum” has been based on the most recent manuscript, yet earlier editions survive. I will make a critical edition of the piece, determining Liszt’s intention for the piece, through extensive background research, analytical study of the score, and an overall assessment of the ethos Liszt sought to portray.
