Are
Children with Special Needs Accurately Reflected in Children’s Literature? : An
Educational Perspective
All children, especially those in public education,
should be exposed to literature daily. This exposure is necessary for their
academic, emotional, and social growth within the classroom. Potentially great
outcomes are possible; however, are all children adequately reflected in
children’s literature? In my project, I explained how children with special
needs are not adequately reflected.
Further I reviewed what literature is available, as well as what aspects
are missing regarding this topic. Critical responses were offered as well as
exploratory solutions. An anthology list of thirty three books was included. My
purpose was to be an advocate for those students who may not be able to speak
for themselves.
