“The Impact of Tort Reform on Medical Malpractice Premiums and Health Care Costs”

 

Abstract: In the past decade, the overall cost of health care has skyrocketed in the United States. Even with state legislative actions in the way of reforming medical malpractice tort law, malpractice insurance premiums and consumer health coverage premiums have continued to increase substantially. The purpose of this literature review study is to look at tort law and discover the truth behind claims that tort reform does have a material impact on the overall cost of health care. This project brings together an understanding of law and finance in a very important consumer affairs issues.
