The Film Studies Department at the University of North Carolina Wilmington seeks a tenure track Assistant Professor in film production. All candidates must be able to teach introductory and advanced courses in film/video production and demonstrate expertise in one or more of the following areas:
Cinematography
Directing Actors
Producing and the business of film
Digital post-production
Experimental Filmmaking
Animation
One of the premiere departments at UNCW, Film Studies incorporates courses in film production and cinema studies and is exploring graduate programs in both areas. The historic coastal resort city of Wilmington is home to EUE Screen Gems Studios, the largest motion picture facility east of California, and the department has a vibrant working relationship with both the studio and area filmmaking professionals. Film festivals, visiting scholars and filmmakers, and an assortment of independent and international film screenings are a community staple. For eleven consecutive years, U. S. News & World Report has ranked UNCW as one of the top ten public master’s universities in the South.
Qualifications: Candidates must possess an MFA in film or a related discipline. Candidates who have not completed their MFA degree will be considered; however, MFA must be obtained within the first academic year of employment. Strong preference will be given to candidates with an MFA in film awarded prior to August 2010. Candidates must demonstrate the potential for significant creative or professional productivity and excellent teaching, as well as the ability to develop new curricula in film production.
